For the greater Hungarian community, 2020 is the year of National Unity or National Cohesiveness. This theme was announced by the Hungarian government given that it is the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Trianon. The theme focuses on what unites all those who affirm their Hungarian identity.
Hungarians have searched for positive expressions of their national identity this year, and we in the Diaspora have a lot to contribute to this identity. Being Hungarian “together” with other Hungarians worldwide is something that many young people experience if they are of Hungarian descent. We invite young people to share their thoughts on this theme by submitting an essay.
We will award cash prizes, and essays may be written in English or Hungarian. We plan to invite the young authors of the best essays to read their essays on our December 12th virtual Zoom program. Whether you are in middle school, high school, or college we welcome your thoughts on the theme of being part of the Hungarian nation and how your Hungarian identity can unite you with other young Hungarians worldwide. Read further to get the details!
The essay should address two issues: 1) what does belonging to the “Hungarian Nation” mean to me? 2) what are my ideas to strengthen national unity in today’s world under today’s circumstances? Length: minimum 2 pages or more. Due date: November 30, 2020 [submissions are accepted on or before the due date.] Send your essay by way of email to: palyazat.magyarmuzeum@gmail.com The chosen winners will be recognized at our December 12th lecture and invited to read their submission to an audience [on Zoom].
