Our first program will be on Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM on Zoom, and we hope you will join us for a presentation dealing with environmental science!
Title: What Are Invasive Species and Why Should We Care About Them?
Presenter: Dr. Emily Jálics Rauschert, Associate Professor in the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences at Cleveland State University.
During her distinguished academic career, Dr. Rauschert conducted research on invasive species in Hungary at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the University of Pécs. During her talk, she will first explain what invasive species are and why they are problematic. She will highlight some of the plants considered more challenging in Hungary and here in Ohio. She will describe her own research methods and highlight the plant biologists’ approaches to identifying and mitigating the harm from invasive species. We have often heard the term “invasive species” in reference to Lake Erie and other areas of Northeast, Ohio, and it will be interesting to hear about the challenges faced by Hungary’s environmental scientists.
